The FUNDEPOS University is developed in Costa Rica as a result of three historical educational events in the field of economic sciences. The first of these with the arrival of National University in 1983, with headquarters in San Diego, California, USA, which instituted the first Professional Master's program in Business Administration in the country. The second historical moment occurred in 1993 when this program was transferred, in terms of its administration, to the University of Costa Rica (UCR). For this purpose, the Foundation for Postgraduate Studies and Research in Economic Sciences (FUNDEPOS) was created.

The UNA is preceded by the Escuela Normal de Costa Rica (1914), dedicated to the training of teachers, and the Escuela Normal Superior (1968), whose commitment was the training of high school teachers. From both institutions, he inherited not only the infrastructure but also a pedagogical culture that would later affect his educational-teaching and humanistic vocation. When UNA was created, the Pérez Zeledón and Liberia Normal Schools became regional sections of the new state university.

Due to its prestige and trajectory, the Castro Carazo University is called to guarantee, to all people, without distinction of ethnic origin, sex, age, different abilities, social condition, health conditions, religion, opinions, preferences, or marital status, the access to quality environments for teaching and learning. The San Marcos University has its origins in the first commercial school that was established in Costa Rica in 1922, under the name of the Manuel Aragón School of Commerce, specialized in the teaching of Accounting and Commerce, a name that remained in force for many years. With the passage of time, the private commercial educational system in our country evolved and that first commercial educational institution was transformed into a Parauniversity institution in 1974, with the name of Instituto de Profesionalización en Ciencias Accountants Manuel Aragón (IPECCO ), preserving as it was in its origins the specialty in the teaching of Accounting and Business Administration.

The UACA opened its doors to students in 1976 as a non-profit foundation, in accordance with the legislation of Costa Rica. It has been the first private university in this nation.
