Introduction
The Master's program in Social & Cultural Anthropology is characterized by a very good student-student ratio and a wide range of methodological, theoretical, and regional courses. 15 master's students are admitted per year. Since these places are fully allocated, it is one of the largest MA courses in anthropology in the country.
The Institute of Ethnology's research focuses (including migration studies, queer and gender studies, sustainability, and climate change) are important contents of the master's program. This content is applied in students' own research projects, which are prepared, accompanied, and evaluated in the master's program (including in Ghana, Turkey, Poland, or Mexico).
To prepare for their own research projects, students learn and deepen advanced methods of anthropology (e.g. network analysis, discourse and content analysis, computer-aided data analysis with MAXQDA). The regional diversity of the institute (Latin America, Africa, Eastern Europe, Arctic, and Asia) not only offers MA students great regional diversity and comparative perspectives in teaching, but also in the supervision of their MA research projects.
The research and project orientation in combination with international mobility optimally prepares students of the Master's degree in Anthropology for their professional careers in a variety of exciting fields of activity, for example in science, migration work, or development cooperation.
