Introduction
The Master's Degree (M.Sc.) in Materials Engineering and Sustainable Processes is designed to provide the student with the most effective and modern teaching tools in the following areas: I) Advanced and Aerospace Materials, II) Green Building Materials, and finally III) Sustainable Processes. As a result, it is organized on three different Curricula.
The uniqueness of the Master's Degree (M.Sc.) in Materials Engineering and Sustainable Processes is also related to the availability of research laboratories which are used to directly provide a direct training of the students.
The Master's Degree (M.Sc.) in Materials Engineering and Sustainable Processes will be held at Scientific and Educational Center in Terni. This campus is a modern structure that stands in a park at the outskirts of the city with a dedicated library, computing facilities and top-ranking laboratories. A food court is located at about 300 meters from the main campus. Moreover, a bus/train station is located at about 2 km from the main campus. This path is also accessible through a new bike path which directly connects the campus to the bus/train station and then to the center in 10/15 minutes. Finally, the train station connects Terni to Rome in about 1 hour and then, from there to the entire country.

Curriculum
The Master's Degree (M.Sc.) is structured in two years. The first year is common at all three Curricula and the student will be trained on the fundamentals of the major classes of materials and on the physics and chemistry of matter. Then, from the second year, the student can choose one of the three different Curricula:
1. Advanced and Aerospace Materials
The design, development, manufacturing, and characterization of high-performance materials will be addressed with a special emphasis on traditional and nanostructured composite materials, metals and lightweight alloys, and in general materials able to operate under extreme conditions such as atmospheric re-entry or rocket engines. The attention will also be focused on the study of the heat transfer processes (such as ablation) and on the advanced testing techniques for the evaluation of the high temperature and thermo-physical properties of materials as well as on non-destructive analysis.
2. Green Building Materials
The techniques for the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of green building-, energy-efficient-, and active materials will be addressed also focusing the attention on the assessment of the materials recycling. In fact, recycling is a key component of modern waste reduction and is the third component of the "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle" waste hierarchy. Moreover, the study of biodegradable and environmentally friendly materials for the construction and packaging industry will be addressed.
3. Sustainable Processes
This curriculum is focused on the study of sustainable and environmentally friendly processes with special attention on biomaterials, recycling of polymeric materials, and design through Life Cycle Analysis (LCA, LCC). The production processes of each specific class of materials will be studied in order to provide the students with the tools necessary to solve real industrial cases and problems.

Ideal Students
Students applying for the program need to have a Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc.) and, a selection Committee will evaluate each admission request based on the degree certificate, transcripts and on the English language certification. Ideal students have competences on mathematics, physics, chemistry, materials science, civil, industrial, and mechanical engineering.
An English language proficiency certificate level B2 or equivalent. Applicants without a B2 English certificate can still register as new students and are allowed to obtain the B2 qualification during their first year of study. English courses and exams are also provided by the University of Perugia.
