The Department of Music Education and General Studies groups together all those students who wish to become music educators in schools in Puerto Rico and abroad. Our teacher preparation program is the leader in music educator training in Puerto Rico, offering students the opportunity to develop their critical thinking and aesthetic judgment skills, as well as a high level of musical performance. He completes his preparation with a component of professional skills that enables him to practice the teaching profession in three different specialties: instrumental, choral, and general education, both at the elementary and secondary levels.

Every student in the Singing Department works in individual classes with dedicated and experienced teachers in the development of the vocal instrument. Opportunities to be on stage are many, as each year the Department presents a complete opera, staged with costumes and orchestra, as well as stage concerts. Students also participate in various recitals of art song and chamber music, as well as Broadway musicals and zarzuelas. We frequently receive visits from international and local artists. Apart from the musical and humanistic studies that are essential for every music student, the student receives a complete education regarding the studies of the languages ​​most used in singing, that is, Italian, French, and German, with classes language and special diction classes. He also receives acting classes and other workshops that work on body movement and stage presence.

The Piano Department has highly experienced teachers who, in addition to weekly individual classes, teach group classes such as the Seminar. The Chamber music, music on two pianos, and accompaniment classes are part of the specialty curriculum, important as experience in other skills of the instrument. During the course, students perform in concerts and participate in master classes offered by internationally renowned guest artists.
