Introduction

Lodz University of Technology (TUL) is one of the biggest and the best state technical universities in Poland placed among 15% of the best universities in the world and a proud member of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities. Founded in 1945, TUL has a strong tradition of engineering education and is well-known all over the world for its achievements in research, science, education, and international cooperation.

Over 10,000 students, out of which around 10% are international students are obtaining their Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. diplomas at 9 faculties and at the International Faculty of Engineering, which offers over 65 study programs, including over 25 taught in English and French. Additionally, students are offered the possibility to do double diploma programs, mobilities (in & outside the EU), and pioneering in the higher education micromodules. To educate professionals in science, engineering, technology, management, and business innovative learning and teaching methods are used, among many: challenge-based learning, design thinking, and flipped education. Students also get hands-on opportunities, particularly participating in lectures run by experts in given fields or getting company placement in TUL’s partner corporation e.g. Amazon, Ikea, or TomTom located in the city and its closest region.

With its 37 ha campus in the center of the city, TUL additionally offers accommodation and free Internet access in 9 halls of residence. Minimized commuting time leaves space for pleasure! With almost 75 student science clubs TUL is a perfect place for students who have a passion for science and want to enrich their knowledge. The university welcomes active people and supports various student initiatives. Żak student radio station broadcasts around the clock at 88,8 MHz, TUL’s Choir has over 45 years of continual stage presence, while the Olympic-sized swimming pool and 31 sports sections might interest those with high doses of energy.

Admissions

There are two admissions in every academic year.

  • In May/June - Admissions for Master programs that begin in the Summer semester (March 1).
  • In December/January - Admissions for Bachelor and Master programs that begin in the Winter semester (October 1).

How to Apply

  1. We kindly ask you to review the admission procedures carefully before you start your application process.
    Read all information included under the "International Candidates" tab. There you can find information concerning the admission process including the list of required documents, available courses, tuition fees, scholarships, language requirements, etc.
  2. Create an account in our admission portal. Later, enter the admission portal always from the address rekrutacja.p.lodz.pl. Choose 1st/2nd-degree studies and then "I'm not a Polish citizen";
  3. Fill in all the personal data and then, the possibility to upload documents will unblock for you;
  4. Upload scans of all the required documents in the time specified on our website;
    • Remember that your documents must be accompanied by an apostille and/or be legalized and translated into Polish or English by a sworn translator.
    • You can apply for up to 4 programs.
  5. Wait for the results.

Scholarships and Funding

  1. The best candidates can apply for studies free of tuition fee payments (two spots in each of 10 faculties). Click the button below for more information.
  2. Candidates are also encouraged to check Polish government scholarships.

A Social Scholarship may be awarded to a student/doctoral student who is in a difficult financial situation and whose monthly net income per person in the family does not exceed the amount specified in a separate Announcement on the amount of individual types of benefits agreed with the Student Government and the Doctoral Students' Government.

In particularly justified cases, a student/doctoral student may receive an increased social scholarship.

A Scholarship for people with disabilities may be awarded to a student/doctoral student with a disability certificate, a disability degree certificate, or a certificate referred to in Art. 5 and Art—62 of the Act of 27 August 1997 on vocational and social rehabilitation and employment of disabled people.

The amount of the scholarship depends on the degree of disability. A student/doctoral student who finds himself or herself in a temporarily difficult life situation may receive aid.

The Rector's scholarship for students may be awarded to a student who has achieved outstanding academic results, has scientific or artistic achievements, or sports achievements in competition at least at the national level.

The Scholarship can be awarded to

  1. A student admitted to the first year of studies in the year of taking the Matura exam who meets at least one of the following conditions:
    • Is a winner of an international olympiad or a winner or finalist of a central level olympiad referred to in the provisions of the education system,
    • Is a current medalist of at least a sports competition for the title of Polish Champion in a given sport referred to in the provisions of the Sports Act;
  2. A student who achieved outstanding academic results. Master's degree students can apply for this scholarship on their first year of studies while Bachelor's degree students only after their first year of studies.
  3. A student of first or second-cycle studies who, in the previous academic year (preceding the application submission), had scientific or artistic achievements, or sports achievements in competition at least at the national level, assessed according to the principles described in the Regulations.
  4. Tuition fees are competitive and significantly lower than in other EU Universities. Tuition fees range from 500-2000 USD per semester. Please check our website for more information about Tuition fees. (The majority of study programs in English cost 2000 USD per semester. There are two semesters in each academic year);
  5. The application fee per study program is only 85 PLN* (approx. 20 Euros) and candidates can apply for up to 4 study programs increasing their chances of getting in;
    *150 PLN if you apply for a BSc in Architecture/ BA in Design/ BSc in Industrial Design and must take the drawing skills exam on campus and 100 PLN for candidates for second-cycle studies, who are obliged to take an entrance exam - an online interview.
  6. Every foreign student accepted to TUL can be accommodated in one of 9 Student Halls of Residence. Just a 2-minute walk away from the campus. The cost of accommodation in single and double rooms is approximately 150 Euros per month. For accommodation details, please refer to our website.
  7. Life in Poland is affordable and costs much less than in other EU countries. Additionally, life in Lodz, although it's the 4th largest city in the country, is cheaper than in others. For more information get in contact with the university.

The Main Changes Concern

  • The method of applying for benefits - scholarships will be awarded on a semester basis;
  • Changes have been introduced in the catalog of achievements included in the rector's scholarship.

Rankings

In the 2023 ranking of universities by the educational magazine "Perspektywy",

  • The Lodz University of Technology took fifth place among technical universities.
  • Ninth place among public universities in Poland. It is also the fourth most frequently chosen university in Poland according to the report of the Ministry of Education and Science.

Last year, Lodz University of Technology was classified in all four of the most prestigious international rankings.

  • Among 32 Polish universities in the international Times Higher Education World University Ranking
  • Among 19 Polish universities in the QS World University Ranking
  • 37 included in the US News Best Global Universities Ranking
  • In ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, is listed in the Energy Science and Engineering discipline.

For the second time, the Lodz University of Technology was included in THE Impact ranking, which focuses on the university's activities in terms of implementing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

  • TUL received the highest score for activities aimed at achieving Goal 8.
  • Economic growth and decent work, entering the global TOP 200 and taking first place in the country.
  • It also ranks first among Polish universities in Goal 17.
  • Partnership for Goals, being in the global TOP 300. In Goal 9. Innovation, Industry, Infrastructure, TUL is in the TOP 400.
