The National University of Quilmes (UNQ for its initials in Spanish) was founded in 1989. It is located at the heart of the Southern Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area, in Bernal City, Quilmes. Three million people live in this region, which centralizes 20% of the country’s industrial establishments.

Nowadays, the UNQ has over eleven thousand students, distributed among its graduate courses and postgraduate courses of study.

The University’s mission is the production, teaching, and transmission of knowledge of the highest quality, in an environment of equality and diversity.

Sound art is a recent field in the history of world artistic creation. The concept of “sound art” encompasses areas of creation that go beyond the traditions of musical practice, since it is about productions that include the possibility of working without restrictions with all available sound materials (not only with those usually associated with to the music). In the course of the 20th and 21st centuries, a phenomenon of expansion and interrelation between various creative and artistic fields and disciplines in relation to music and sound is observed. Some of these disciplines are: formats and supports typical of the visual arts such as sculpture and installation; interactive art; the invention and construction of new musical instruments (experimental luthería); a diversity of performance practices; among other. Various researchers coincide in affirming that sound art, a field in constant growth and expansion, constitutes an axis of central relevance of the artistic creation of our time. Seth Kim-Cohen (2009) explains that sound art throughout the 20th century acquired its own identity as an “expanded sonic field”, characterizing it as “non-cochlear” art (establishing an analogy with the concept of “non-retinal art” by M . Duchamp), in the sense of proposing various alternatives to both traditional musical arts and traditional listening practices. López Cano, for his part, explains that "the concept of sound art does not refer to a specific technique, artistic genre or practice, but to a transdisciplinary domain where specialists from extremely different fields, disciplines and artistic traditions concur (...) in the domain, diverse artistic behaviors originating from diverse traditions of contemporary and avant-garde art are mutually integrated, discussed and contaminated ". Thus, he concludes that sound art "is integrated into contemporary art paradigms while reformulating them and building its own" (López Cano, 2013).

Master in Sound Art

The main objective of the Master's program is to train graduates in disciplines related to Social, Economic and Territorial Sciences with academic excellence to act, advise, research and generate teaching on issues related to territorial and urban development and management in regional, national and international spheres. Its specific objectives include: • Critically reflect on the processes of territorial development and favor research and development activities in order to deepen and prioritize the theoretical-methodological debate and its application to the professional field. • Consolidate, from an interdisciplinary perspective, the training of teachers and researchers who from different areas of knowledge are focused on the problem of territorial development. • Train human resources in research that have a sufficient qualification level to generate a positive impact on professionalized academic and scientific production, particularly in the areas of theoretical problematization, economic-psychological-spatial interdisciplinarity, planning and ordering of the territorial and urban. • Achieve an academic and professional training of excellence, which demonstrates the capacity for analysis, study and also intervention in different spheres of action to lead social processes in the territory that combine: research of excellence, quality teaching, social responsibility and applicability of knowledge for a socially and environmentally sustainable and equitable development. • Generate cognitive skills at a theoretical, methodological and operational level for the design and management of research policies in urban and territorial matters and their applicability to programs and projects for development and planning on a regional and local scale. • Train professionals who contribute to strengthening institutions, modernizing university and research areas as well as local and regional governments, associating localities, communities and regions for their sustainable development. • Contribute to the construction of analytical capacities to strengthen management and the generation of strategic competencies at the level of social actors with a territorial base to link economic, social, political, environmental and cultural initiatives with the local and regional development process.

Master in Territorial and Urban Development

The Master's main objectives are: • Promote an analysis and a critical view of the complexity of the tourism development problem from an interdisciplinary perspective, • Promote and consolidate a high degree of specialization and innovation in the development and management of tourism oriented towards local development and contribute to improving the skills to direct and manage the development of tourist destinations, • Promote a high degree of specialization in the development and management of tourism enterprises and contribute to improving the skills for their direction and management; • Contribute to training for the development of instruments and techniques for tourism development and management, • Provide extensive training in the interpretation and critical analysis of the processes of socio-cultural changes and their relationship with new tourism development strategies that contribute to improving the quality of life, • Contribute to the dissemination and exchange of experiences based on the analysis of cases on local tourism development initiatives and their particular characteristics, • Promote contributions to the construction of knowledge on the development of tourism to promote applied research that strengthens knowledge with guidance in the areas of Destination Development and Tourism Entrepreneurship.
